March 30, 2014, Malta International Airport welcomed airberlin's partner airlines and Austria based NIKI on its first arrival in Malta. Tradition has the salute of the taxiing airplane with a water arch from the fire brigade, passengers being welcomed by ladies dressed in traditional clothes giving flowers while accompanied by a Maltese accordion player, and of course the cake cutting with members of the crew, all documented by the press (see below).
